Friedr. Dick receives the German Design Award 2026

Friedr. Dick’s DarkNitro knives series has been named a winner in the Excellent Product Design – Kitchen category of the German Design Awards 2026.

The award is one of the most prestigious international prizes for outstanding design achievements. Only products nominated by expert committees of the German Design Council are eligible to participate.

Since 2012, the awards have celebrated the diversity of global design, with more than 3,900 submissions from 57 countries.

The DarkNitro series award recognises outstanding design achievements that set a benchmark within their category, as among the best-designed products of the year. It’s a statement of innovation, craftsmanship and functionality from Friedr. Dick, a company with more than 240 years’ history.

“The powerful combination of striking hammer-finish blades and a distinctive oak handle defines DarkNitro,” said the awards jury. “Clear contours create a harmonious, expressive presence, further enhanced by the anthracite finish and sustainable colouring process.

“Its impressive sharpness and subtle elegance establish this knife as a relevant statement for discerning kitchen aesthetics.”

The jury emphasised that each knife is a true eye-catcher, whether in the hands of professional chefs or ambitious gourmets.

The anthracite-coloured blades with hammered finish and carbon look give the knives their striking industrial character. Combined with hand-sanded oak handles, this creates unique, aesthetically pleasing pieces – powerful, precise, and full of character.

“We are proud that our DarkNitro impressed the jury,” said Steffen Uebele, managing director of Friedr. Dick. “This award underscores our commitment to achieving the perfect balance of function, quality and design for products that impress in every respect.”

The German Design Awards 2026 ceremony will take place during Ambiente in Frankfurt am Main, coinciding with the region’s World Design Capital 2026 status.

This recognition is particularly welcome news for the Culinary Association of Wales, with whom Friedr. Dick has enjoyed a long and valued partnership. As a sponsor of the association for many years, the company has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting chefs, young talent and culinary excellence across Wales. The German Design Award 2026 further underlines the quality and innovation behind the tools trusted by professionals and reinforces why Friedr. Dick remains such a respected and enduring supporter of the culinary community.
